Broadcast design for the classroom

“My local high school approached me about building a customizable news opener for their weekly student broadcast, I immediately knew this was a project worth taking on!”

Not only was it an opportunity to design a complete broadcast package from scratch—it was also a chance to give students hands-on tools and layouts that would help them learn real-world production workflows.

The goal was simple:
Create a high-energy, modern broadcast opener that students could update, remix, re-record, and add graphics to—without needing professional-level software experience.

To support this, I expanded the opener into a full graphics package that included lower-thirds, transitions, animated backgrounds, and modular elements. The result is a flexible visual system that feels polished and network-ready while still being accessible and editable in a classroom environment.

Design Language

I leaned into a vibrant purple palette inspired by the school’s branding and mascot, using a sleek neon-pink secondary range to give everything a tech-forward, trending aesthetic. The 3D wireframe globe and particle network add a sense of scale and modernity, grounding the opener visually while leaving room for the students to inject their personality each week.

Technical Approach

The graphics were developed in Cinema4D & After Effects, with motion elements built to be modular so students could toggle footage, replace text, or add VO without breaking animation timings. The template structure encourages exploration:

Pre-built compositions

Clearly labeled layers

Adjustable color controls

Render-ready sequences

Educational Impact

This project is one of the most rewarding I’ve taken on in recent years. Beyond the visuals, the intent was to equip young creators with the confidence to explore video production and animation. Seeing the students personalize the graphics—week after week—has been the best payoff possible.
